Information Connections Engine (ICE) 1.0.3 Release Notes

In This Build

  • ICE Starter Kit 1.0.3 -- updated ICE.XAP file to correct issue of nodes not showing up the first time, when more than one starting nodes was used.
  • ICE - IconLibrary Sources.zip (Default Theme - Sources) -- tools.cs modified to fix a bug with color not using the correct namespace, so colors couldn't be easily applied to objects.
  • ICE - Getting Started Tutorial.doc -- modifications include:
- links to live demos for step 4, step 5 and step 8
- documentation of the GRAVITY option (can be negative or positive gravity)
- correction of namespace in XML setting files (we now use defaultTemplate rather than defaultDrawingInformation)
- addition of source code for a completely new example of node customization, which also explains how to differentiate selected nodes from unselected nodes (which leads to some cool creativity)

Information Connections Engine (ICE) 1.0 Release Notes

In This Build

  • ICE Starter Kit.zip -- Contains all the files you need to add in your project (ICE Silverlight XAP file, XSD file, IconLibrary.dll). Read tutorial for details.
  • ICE - IconLibrary Sources.zip (Default Theme - Sources) -- (Optional) Can be used as starting point if you want to create your own theme. See this video for an example of how this library sources can be used. Also, have a look at this blog post for how to design your own theme.
  • ICE - Getting Started Tutorial.doc -- Step by step tutorial for creating your first project using ICE.

Note: the current release has been built using Silverlight 2.0. It has been successfully tested on Silverlight 3.0 environment.

Getting Started

  • Read step by step tutorial (ICE - Getting Started Tutorial.doc). The tutorial is written in such a way that each step is fully workable, meaning you can go all the way to Step 2 and have a working project. Each following step adds more features and brings you more knowledge, more options about ICE to your project.

Main Features

  • Automatic visualization of properly formatted data (specific XML format). Meaning: you can display pretty much anything you have in mind (people, data, web pages, etc.)
  • Customization of style for nodes and links. Meaning: your imagination (and XAML language) are the only limitations to how your nodes can look like. If you can design it in XAML (tip: use Microsoft Expression Blend), you can use it as a node.
  • Customization of actions available for each node type. Meaning: your users can do much more than looking at a pretty graph
